8:30 a.m. Wardell/Walter Angus WXW is a seedstock cattle operation producing 200 calves each year, including embryo transfers. The Wardell and Walter ranches neighbor each other and have primarily sandhill-based eco-systems with highly wind-erodable soil, and an average annual rainfall of 13 inches. WXW’s genetic focus is on providing maternally strong, structurally sound bulls and females that are easy fleshing, have easy to manage dispositions, grow and gain well, and perform well on the grid. The Seedstock Alliances 10:00 a.m. Magness Land and Cattle/Five Star Cattle Systems - Magness Land & Cattle is a family owned operation dedicated to the purebred beef industry and the needs of the commercial cattleman, packers and consumers. Over the years, they have progressed from 50 head of Hereford cows to one of the largest producers of purebred Limousin and Lim-Flex seedstock. Magness utilizes embryo transfer extensively as a genetic improvement tool and is widely known for their success in the show ring. Five Star Cattle Systems is a LLC between Magness Land & Cattle and Smithfield Beef Group. Since it’s inception in 1996, the goal of Five Star is to reward cattle producers for producing superior feedlot and carcass cattle while providing quality beef to various branded beef programs. Five Star sells approximately 750 bulls annually and helps place numerous feeder cattle into the Five Rivers feedlot system. In addition, Five Star also helps the ranchers capture additional premiums by helping to Age and Source Verify their animals. 12:00 p.m. Lunch at Magness 1:30 p.m. Kuner Feedlot, Five Rivers Cattle Feeding - Five Rivers Ranch Cattle Feeding LLC (Five Rivers) is an independently operated joint venture between the cattle feeding businesses of ContiGroup Companies, Inc. (formerly Continental Grain Company) and Smithfield Foods, Inc. formed in May 2005. Five Rivers has a combined feeding capacity of more than 800,000 head of cattle with locations in Colorado , Idaho , Kansas , Oklahoma , and Texas . Kuner Feedlot was constructed in 1974. Currently managed by Nolan Stone. 3:30 Leachmen Cattle of Colorado - Leachman Cattle of Colorado is based at the Horton Test Center in Wellington , CO . LCoC markets over 1000 bulls per year including Angus, Red Angus, Stabilizers, and Charolais. Bulls are produced through LCoC’s large ET program and through a network of cooperators. LCoC’s genetic program focuses on specialized maternal and terminal lines, cow size, and overall profitability. Elite donors and herd sires will be on display at the Wellington facility from each of the breed lines. Ice cream and refreshments will also be served. 5:30 p.m. Return to Hilton, Fort Collins |
